What is your background?
Prior to joining BCMS I worked at Computer 2000, part of the Tech Data Group, as a Senior Analyst within their Financial Planning and Analysis team (FP&A). This was working as part of a team covering all aspects of forecasting, budgeting and reports analysis for the then £1bn turnover business. Prior to that I trained and qualified as an AAT and then ACCA qualified accountant at RSM Tenon, now part of Baker Tilly, primarily working in their accounting services and outsourced services departments.
What is your role at BCMS?
I am an Associate Director at BCMS performing the role of Business Analyst. My responsibility is to work with clients to understand and analyse their historic financial performance and aid in the creation of a forward looking business plan. This information is then used in the presentation of the business to show the financial highlights and areas of focus for an acquirer. I also assist with any financial modelling of offers placed on the business, private equity structures and support the shareholders during the due diligence phase to the successful completion of a transaction.
What aspects of your work do you enjoy most?
For me the most enjoyable part is working and engaging with the client. Every business is different and unique. At BCMS we deal with businesses across all industry sectors and it’s this variety that I enjoy. Understanding how each business has evolved is fascinating and getting under the skin of the performance of the business can be both a challenge and very interesting.
What attracted you to working in M&A?
It was by chance really that I discovered BCMS! I was thinking of my next career move within the FP&A / Analytical roles in the market and came across a different looking job description which had a great deal of variety and scope but in the M&A sector. I hadn’t really considered a career in M&A but now with 5 years’ experience it has suited me well! I’m quite a people’s person and seeing successful entrepreneurs realise their reward for what is often a lifetime of hard work is very pleasing.
How does your role help BCMS clients?
Not all clients have a Finance Director or dedicated finance function. For those that do and those that don’t I act as another layer of financial knowledge to review their financial statements but with the experience of knowing how a potential acquirer would interrogate them.
How would you describe working at BCMS?
BCMS is very much a team environment. The experience across the business is vast and it’s rare to find yourself in a deal situation or scenario that hasn’t been experienced by someone before. The people are very friendly and always willing to help one another in the best interest of our clients.
